One of the traditional Autumn celebrations falls in São Martinho day on the November 11. This is the time of the year known as the Verão de São Martinho, the Portuguese version of Indian Summer or Saint Martin’s Summer as it was also known in the UK.
Traditionally, it indicates a rise in temperatures in the middle of Autumn giving the feeling of Summer again. It just lasts for a couple of days but it is a very pleasant feeling.
São Martinho is the time to eat chestnuts and drink young wine, I’m getting those ready, since we’ll be there in a couple of days :)
